Run Communications has appointed digital communications expert Mark Gilbert as its latest senior hire, as well as recruiting Mark Coughlan to run the digital and social communications.

Mark Gilbert has joined the agency on a consultancy basis to bolster its digital offering for current clients and grow new business in 2020 and beyond.

Prior to joining Run, Mark spent four years at the Football Association as Head of Digital Communications, transforming the organisation’s content output. He led strategies for a host of high-profile events, including World Cup 2014, the 2015 Women’s World Cup and Euro 2016.

Mark oversaw the content team for The R&A at The Open in 2017, before joining Virgin to lead content and brand for the launch of their sportsbook. Since returning to consultancy, Mark has worked with PR and sports marketing agencies, technology start-ups and the global sports charity Laureus.

Mark Coughlan has joined the agency on a full-time basis to help grow the social media channels of both clients and the agency.

Prior to joining the team, Mark spent over three years leading the digital communications at Richmond Rugby Club and Wentworth Golf Club. He ran social media campaigns around the BMW PGA Championship, a world-record women’s rugby match and a charity cricket game featuring Kevin Pietersen, Brian Lara and a host of other high-profile names.

Mark has previously undertaken digital work for Rugby World, ESPN and The Times, as well as working as a writer for Sport Magazine for four years.

Steve Chisholm, Founder of Run Communications said: “We are thrilled that Mark Gilbert and Mark Coughlan have joined Run. Both have a tremendous range of experience in digital comms and will be a huge asset to the agency. We already provide Social and video services for a number of our clients and Mark’s experience will strength our strategic approach. Mark Coughlan, meanwhile, will be a vital team member on the day to day side, helping us grow our own social media footprint. We’re ready to go to the next level”

Mark Gilbert added: “Run is a great agency and I’m delighted to be joining Steve and the team. I’m excited to be able to work with their top-class clients, as well as helping the agency grow and expand its potential on the digital side.”

Mark Coughlan added: “I’m really excited to find new ways to help grow the digital output for both Run and their brilliant clients. Sport is in a unique place right now, so this is a great opportunity for me to find new ways to explore the landscape. This is a great team with such amazing potential to do some special things, and I can’t wait to play my part.”
